Covert Affairs

Covert Affairs is a popular American TV series which includes aspects of crime, drama and action. It is a spy related show which follows the work of CIA trainee Annie Walker. We analysed this opening credits for actions and poses, sound, timing and camera movements and shots. This Opening credits is quite short although I think its still very effective for the fast movement and action expected from the TV series. There are high amounts of different camera shots and angles, what I thought was effective is how each character has their own close up in the opening credits this clearly shows they are important and we can see as 'Annie' has most screen time she will be the main protagonist in this show. The use of CGI and camera filters to include cartoon like backgrounds and figures fits well into the mysterious aroma of the programme. My notes are to the left and video link below.
Game Of Thrones
First premièring in 2011 the popular US originated TV series 'Game Of Thrones' is about seven noble families fighting for control of the mythical land of Westeros. It is commonly classed as an action fantasy drama. As compared to 'Covert Affairs', this opening is quite long and unique. The series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment. To me the use of cogs and fictional mechanics to represent buildings and countries and how there was a range of different camera angles and movements to capture these were very effective to the viewer along with quite medieval music which worked well with the genre and changed as action came about.
